MTB's

Postby mike7 » Sun Mar 14, 2010 19:54

Hi,
My father Hendrik Jan Bakker was in the Royal Dutch Navy during the 2nd world war between May 1940 and November 1945. He was as far as I am aware stationed at Dover, England. He was on the MTB's, can anyone give me any more information. I know that there was a reunion of MTB's on the 15 November 1969 at the Boogerd Restaurant in Zaltbommel.
Thanks
Mike

Dear Mike,

There is a Dutch language booklet that describes the actions of the Dutch MTB’s from Britain in World War 2.

"Nederlandse Torpedomotorboten (MTBs)" by the late Chris Mark
This was written in the framework of the series "Schepen van de Koninklijke Marine in woord en beeld".

I ordered this booklet in 2005 at:
Stichting Promotie Maritieme Tradities te Gouda,
dhr. Ben Oudman
Tel. +31 182 534586.
I do not know whether this number is still valid.

You can also visit the “toko” of the website of the
Stichting Promotie Maritieme Tradities
at:
http://www.mahu880.nl/pageID_6985962.html

If you want to know something about your fathers service in the Dutch Navy, you might want to write an E-mail to the Netherlands Institute for Military History: http://www.nimh.nl/en/contact/contact.aspx.
They may have a personnel card with all the information on your father and on which boat he served.

Good luck

Jan

Another interesting book is "Vannacht varen de Hollanders" by Hans Larive.
