Beste Folkert bij mij weten is niet de O 20 door mevrouw Pappelendam te watergelaten maar de O 22. MVG Gerard

Thanks, could someone briefly summarize the newspaper article for me? I see J.C. Pappelendams name.

I am sending the disk of the book off to the publisher this afternoon.

So if J.C. Van Pappelendam is not the snorkel invention officer in Stalag 371, a correction will have to be made in the next book!

Into the water with shouts of joy.

Submarine service adds another boat

Many present show their interest.

Military and civil dignitaries, many of them accompanied by their spouses today witnessed the launching of O 22.
Amongst the dignitaries invited were:
Rear admiral H.J van der Stad, ……..A. Smit.

After ir HC Wesseling, oldest Director, requested Mrs. JEA van Pappelendam-De Witte to remove the final obstacles, which connected O22 to the wharf, the slim boat first slowly, than faster went down the slope to reach her element, under shouts of joy from all people present.
By doing that O22 was rendered to her destiny without any problems.
After the ceremony the invitees assembled at the head-office of De Schelde, for a festive toast.

As I see it nothing yet that says he was not J.C. Pappelendam the snorkel man! It rhymes.

The book went off today!

No in Sedona Arizona.

http://www.sedonavision.com/camera (this one is live). So you need daylight. We are Pacific time.

Can someone explain to me the ranks I have been given since joining! I see it has been changed since we started discussions. Have I been promoted or demoted?!

Hi Rob,

You have been promoted based upon the number of posts. I don't know the exact promotion schedule (yet), but I'll find out for you.
Currently you are going through the SeaScouting ( :?: ) ranks. When done with those, you will be promoted ??? (edited by admin Bram. Reason: some things need to remain a secret)

Just keep typing, and you'll get there :P

Thanks Pimster and everyone else that helped me so much.

I will return if I have another Dutch Naval question. I could never make it to Admiral!

Have fun -- as you all know from serving on ships, as in life, it is the journey not the destination that is the most important thing!

Best to all.

Of course all staff members know the promoting schedule. But we are not going to make that public :P since we want it to be a surprise when you get promoted

For people who do not like their current rank there is the possibility to receive a fixed rank that will stay the same. This can, but not necessarily has to be, one of the standard ranks. But can also be a special rank with its own logo.

In case you have special "rank wishes" just contact one of the moderators or post a message in the Mededelingen, hulp, opmerkingen en suggesties forum. Then we can ask our DutchFleet sea-nymph if you really deserve that rank

Thanks Sgt. Bram.

Signing off.

Is it over and out?

I missed the call up by the skin of my teeth in three wars. UK (post WWII), Rhodesia (War of Independence), and the USA (Post Vietnam).

Definitely not "over and out", as over means "I am done talking, awaiting your reply", whereas out means "I am finished communicating" :phone:
Can't have it both ways

By coincidence I read the below posts. JC van Pappelendam was my grandfather. He survived the war and died in 1975. I remember my father telling me various rtimes that his father was one of the inventors of the snorkel. He is the snorkelman, but I don't think it was ever officially confirmed. But he showed me the drawings when I was a little boy.

Hope this information helps.

Kind regards, Marc van Pappelendam

JC van Pappelendam is the inventor of the snorkel. I am his grandson Marc van Pappelendam and have seen the drawings years ago.
